Publications Patent Litigation Summit Thursday, November 16, ICLEF sponsored a Patent Litigation Summit. The Summit featured a panel of District Court Judges McKinney (SD of IN), Kennelly (ND of IL), and Perry (ED of MO). Also featured was a panel of in-house counsel, which included Richard A. Huser, Pete R. Yonkman, and John L. McMullin, III. The Summit was moderated by Woodard partners Holiday Banta , Lisa Hiday, Chris Brown and Steve Zlatos. Partner Spiro Bereveskos presented on various topics of importance to patent litigators and corporate counsel responsible for managing patent litigation.

ISBA Associate Marta L. Puckett was elected to serve on the Indiana State Bar Association's Intellectual Property Section as Secretary/Treasurer. Marta will be joining a board that will be discussing, among other things, INTA’s new model anti-counterfeiting law and whether it should be proposed in Indiana.

Woodard Partners to Chair the Indianapolis Zoo Wine Auction, 2007
Partners Holly Banta and T.J. Cole will co-chair the
9th annual Elegant Vintages International
Wine Auction to benefit the Indianapolis Zoo in
2007. Holly and T.J. are long time supporters of
the Indianapolis Zoo and are deeply committed to the
zoo’s continued success. They also co-chaired the 8th
annual Wine Auction in 2006. The
proceeds from this event benefit the Zoo and its
conservation and community programs. Inaugural USPATENT.COM Award Honors Intel International Science and Engineering Fair Contestant Indianapolis, Ind. – May 12, 2006 —Woodard, Emhardt, Moriarty, McNett & Henry LLP presented the inaugural USPATENT.COM Award to Christopher Jon Olsen Thursday evening during the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair awards program. Olson, 17, is a senior at Valley Central High School in Montgomery, New York. Olson’s project was selected from more than 1,400 finalists representing 47 countries. He invented an all-terrain, omni-directional wheelchair with on-board obstacle climbing features. Equipped with wheel pairs capable of navigating uneven surfaces such as steps, curbs and rough terrains, the wheelchair provides the disabled with enhanced mobility on a range of surface environments. The wheelchair navigates uneven topography, freeing the individual to attend and/or participate in a greater variety of activities. “The USPATENT.COM award was created by Woodard, Emhardt, Moriarty, McNett & Henry LLP to recognize and applaud young persons’ efforts in developing innovative solutions that benefit our world,” said Steve Zlatos, a partner with Woodard, Emhardt, Moriarty, McNett & Henry LLP. In selecting the winning project, the judging panel considered the commercial and patentable merit of each project. Along with the USPATENT.COM trophy, Olsen received $10,000 in patent services from the Firm.
WIBC Partner Dan Lueders shared with WIBC listeners what qualities make a good inventor, what trends are likely to dominate patents in years to come and how to protect their ideas for new products.
WRTV Partner Christopher Brown provided viewers with a look at Indiana inventions and shared information on the U.S.PATENT.COM award.
Woodard, Emhardt Partners, Associates and Staff Volunteer to Support the Indianapolis Zoo Woodard Emhardt partners Holiday W. Banta and T.J. Cole chaired the Eighth Annual Elegant Vintages International Wine Auction presented by Northwest Airlines. The event was held March 11, 2006 and raised over $115,000 for the Indianapolis Zoo. The crowd of 220 guests was treated to a 5-course dinner with world-class wines, while being entertained by the hilarious antics of David Reynolds, the country’s number one charity wine auctioneer, whose battle cry during the auction was “No spousal restraint!” More than 300 lots were auctioned off, including many rare and valuable bottles of wine generously donated by collectors from Indianapolis and throughout the Midwest. There were also many interesting non-wine lots, including the opportunity to ride with a professional IRL driver around the famous Indy 500 track in a two-seat IRL car and a private candlelight dinner for eight with rare wines, served in the Zoo’s Dolphin Adventure Gallery underwater acrylic dome while curious dolphins swim around looking at the diners. T.J. and Holly will again be chairing next year’s event, to be held on March 10, 2007. Other Woodard partners and associates played key roles in the organization of the event. Other members of the committee were: Chuck Schmal – Vice Chair, Auction Logistics, Marta Puckett – Vice Chair, Volunteers, Jim Blaufuss – Vice Chair, Corporate Sponsorship, Mike Wherry, Michael Benefield and Adam Borgman. The evening ran smoothly thanks in part to the efforts of volunteers from the firm’s staff: Carol Thomas, Shannon Robling, Victoria Goodspeed, Cindy Wiles and Pat Moore.
DAVE EMHARDT HONORED AS SAGAMORE OF THE WABASH
February 11, 2006 -
Governor MItch Daniels
named Woodard Emhardt Attorney C. David Emhardt as a
Sagamore of the Wabash. The Sagamore of the Wabash is
the highest award in the state for civic achievement.
Dave Emhardt is the most senior attorney at the firm.
The firm wishes Dave well and is pleased to see his
years of devoted service recognized with this esteemed
honor from the governor.
Partners Teach Patent Litigation Law School Class Firm Partners, Dan Lueders and Lisa Hiday, are teaching the Patent Litigation Class at Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. This is an advanced class requiring a prerequisite in patent law. The course covers a more in-depth analysis of Markman hearings, patent damages and other remedies, deposition techniques and strategies and other skills. Dan Lueders states, “The students are very bright and eager to learn”. Partners Lueders and Hiday have extensive experience litigating patent trials and other intellectual property disputes.
