RealMed Corporation
Indianapolis-based
RealMed Corporation provides innovative services to facilitate information
and transactions between insurance companies, health care providers
and consumers. Its patent pending business system significantly
streamlines current methods of health insurance claims processing
and payment by providing end-to-end resolution of claims at the
point of service.
Early on the
company knew it needed patent, copyright and trademark protection
for its innovative processes, says Scott Herbst, general counsel.
RealMed turned to Woodard, Emhardt, Moriarty, McNett & Henry
LLP. "RealMed
was looking for a firm that would act as our business partner
and also provide the high-level, sophisticated
advice that was necessary in order to protect our growing business,"
he said. "Woodard listened to all of our goals and concerns
and then tailored a strategy to meet our needs. Simply put, they
didn't provide theoretical, canned legal advice. Rather, they devoted
time to get to know us and customized their approach to meet our
unique business needs."
The Firm not
only filed several patent applications for RealMed but also stepped
out of the traditional lawyer role and helped RealMed educate its
workforce about intellectual property issues by providing training
sessions to RealMed employees. "The Firm helped us teach our
employees how to protect our intellectual property, and perhaps
more importantly, educated our employees on the standards to identify
new ideas that were unique and worth protecting. They were a partner
in resolving our needs and a real coach in setting up and executing
a game plan," Herbst said. "Unlike other intellectual
property firms that I have worked with in the past, Woodard helped
us to understand what really mattered to our business and then partnered
with us to expeditiously accomplish those items. Their partner mentality
was the best thing about working with them," he added.
